A little off topic, is it true a German political party are not allowed to form a coalition with a right or left wing party?

Not sure. They like to combine colours, so you can have the “traffic light” coalition (red - socialists, green(s) and yellow - democrats), Jamaica (black - conservatives, greens and yellow), or the GroKo (black and red). Come to think of it, they don’t have that much right leaning parties.
