This footage is from 4 years ago, just before I went to Ukraine. I’ve shared this footage in bits and pieces on my channel, but I have’t shared it in its entirety - with no editing. I think now is a great time to share it, to better understand the side of the airstrikes we aren’t hearing about. This isn’t meant to give sympathy or take a side, it is purely meant to be educational, and really bring you into the life of a soldier reacting to airstrikes while in a tunnel.
This footage was an all day event, and I simply didn’t have the batteries to keep the GoPro on during the duration of these bombings. There are events in war that just aren’t captured on film. I wish I could’ve recorded when we had gotten out of the tunnels and were taking JDAMS down the street, blowing the curtain to the ceiling and sending concrete on our roof. I wish It was recorded when this very tunnel base you’re seeing right now was obliterated, every entrance and exit. This isn’t how it works though. Airstrikes come fast, they come hard, and then they suddenly stop. At the very least, feel free to put on some headphones, put this on a big screen, and feel the tension as we experience the first large bombing of our lives.
Thanks for watching, war isn’t fun, and don’t do stupid shit like me. I came to Iraq to defend the Yezidi population from ISIS, we never knew the geopolitical mess we were walking into.
